About the Journal
The Anti-Trafficking Review is the first open access, peer reviewed journal dedicated to the issue of human trafficking. It explores trafficking in its broader context and intersections with gender, labour, and migration.
Each issue relates to an emerging or overlooked theme in the field of human trafficking. The Review’s focus is global in nature, exploring micro and macro levels of anti-trafficking responses and the commonalities, differences. and disconnects in between.
The journal contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 5 (Gender Equality), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
Current Issue
Guest Editors: Kiril Sharapov, Suzanne Hoff, and Jonathan Mendel
This Special Issue of the Anti-Trafficking Review attempts to examine funding and spending on efforts to stop human trafficking, particularly, by the United States, United Kingdom, and the European Union. Featuring articles from academics, non-government organisations, and survivors of trafficking, this edition explores where the money comes from, who it goes to, and what it actually achieves. The eight articles in the issue suggest that the millions of dollars spent on combating human trafficking do not always reach trafficked persons or at risk groups and, in some cases, are actively harming them. Authors point to potentially more effective uses of anti-trafficking funding.
